The Story
In tribute to Naji Salim Hussain Al-Ali, the visionary Palestinian cartoonist behind Handala, we dedicate this platform to the enduring spirit of resistance. Handala, a symbol of Palestinian identity, first appeared in 1969 and became a powerful critique of political leaders through over 40,000 cartoons.
Al-Ali, forced to leave Palestine at ten, portrayed Handala with a turned back and clasped hands, rejecting external solutions until return. The character, barefoot and in tattered clothes, reflects allegiance to the poor. Al-Ali pledged Handala would reveal his face only upon the return of Palestinian refugees.
Continuing Al-Ali's quest for justice, you are invited to explore the truth of Palestine through thought-provoking content. Join us in amplifying the voices of the oppressed, challenging preconceptions, and contributing to a nuanced perspective on Palestine. In this context, it's crucial to remember Naji Al-Ali's tragic assassination, a sombre reminder of the risks faced by those who speak truth to power in the pursuit of justice.
